No Child Left Unfed Project

The NO CHILD LEFT UNFED program is a Washington County Schools program that provides children with reduced or free lunch with food over the weekend and vacation periods. Each week children are sent home with a bag that contains enough nonperishable and easily opened food items for three lunches/dinners, breakfast and snacks. A group of volunteers from West Main pack these food bags once every 5 weeks.

Children who rely on reduced or free school lunches only face hunger when school weeks end. It's a dilemma that should never happen to our youth, and that's where West Main Baptist Church ‘s No Child Left Unfed program comes into play, ensuring that no child in Abingdon, VA, goes to bed hungry.

The No Child Left Unfed initiative, an invaluable program spearheaded by Washington County Schools, gives hope to children facing food insecurity. It addresses a dire need in the community, providing essential support to students who might otherwise go without nutritious meals during the weekends and vacation periods.

The Initiative That Provides Weekend and Vacation Meals

Every week, the program extends a lifeline to these children through a bag filled with nonperishable, easily opened food items. This thoughtful provision encompasses enough food for three lunches, dinners, and breakfasts, along with snacks so that the children receive balanced and nutritious meals while away from school.

The heart of the No Child Left Unfed program lies in the dedicated group of volunteers from West Main. These community heroes pack the food bags with meticulous care and unwavering dedication, ensuring that each child receives a parcel filled not just with sustenance but with love, hope, and a sense of belonging.

These volunteers gather once every five weeks, transforming their passion for community service into solid support for those in need. Their collective effort brings relief to children, knowing that there is a safety net when it comes to hunger.

No Child Left Unfed Program Is More Than Food

This program carries a profound message of care and compassion to its students. It signals that the community understands the importance of a nutritious diet and is willing to step up to ensure that no child goes to bed with an empty stomach.

The program’s impact extends beyond the immediate satisfaction of hunger; it boosts children's overall well-being, ensuring they have the physical and mental energy to excel in their studies and enjoy their childhood without the burden of hunger.

The No Child Left Unfed Program is a Community Effort

The No Child Left Unfed program epitomizes the collective responsibility of a community coming together to safeguard its future. It is a testament to the power of community, where each volunteer's contribution, no matter how small, contributes to a bigger picture of resilience and hope.
